The foregoing was indicated by Judge Mary Cruz Cortés Ornelas, when presiding over the opening of the Workshop “Effective Application of Protection Orders, in the Light of International Instruments on the Human Rights of Women”, representing the Chief Justice of the Court Superior of Justice, Mario Antonio de Jesús Jiménez Martínez. Cortés Ornelas shared that the Judiciary, fulfills its commitments to prevent, eradicate and punish violence against women, by calling to expand knowledge on one of the tools that is available, to address this problem, such as protection orders.

He added that protection orders are of great importance and, by executing them correctly and effectively, can save the lives of one or more women. “Various organizations have already reiterated to our country the need to accelerate their application, especially to raise awareness and spread awareness of their importance in protecting women who face risks. For this reason, the Judiciary calls this important workshop to attend such urgency. “

Magistrate Mary Cruz Cortés Ornelas, President of the Family Civil Chamber of the TSJ, acknowledged that in the state, activist groups and civil associations have indicated that so far this year, approximately 19 feminicides have occurred, for which reason the Judicial Power works at implement these training workshops to guarantee respect for women’s rights.

The presidium was accompanied at this inaugural act by the Director of Follow-up to the National Policy to Combat Violence Against Women, of the National Institute of Women (INMUJERES) Enna Paloma Ayala Sierra; the Director of the State Institute for Women, María Angélica Zárate Flores; the Director of the Judicial Specialization Institute of the TSJ, Alma Carina Cuevas Fernández; and Ángeles Mendoza Arteaga, head of the TSJ’s Gender Equality Unit.

Participating as speakers in this workshop, Rodolfo Manuel Domínguez Márquez, General Coordinator of Justice, Human Rights and Gender AC; Sara López Pantoja, Head of the Third Court of Oral Proceedings in Family Matters of the Superior Court of Justice of Mexico City; Nelly Montealegre Díaz Deputy Attorney General of Attention to Victims of Crime and Services to the Community of the Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City; and María Fernanda Aquino Baeza, lawyer from the AC Human Rights Center for Women.
